Directions to the college office

This happened in one of the colleges  I attended:

A potential PhD student went to meet his potential guide several times. After number of visits and discussions the guide agreed to take him as his student. The guide then asked the student if he knew where the college office was, when the student told him that he was not currently aware the guide decided to give detailed instructions as follows:

"When you come out of this room there are two ways one going left and the other right, donot go towards the left take right, you will see a large room - a laboratory, when you cross the laboratory there are three ways one going left, one going right and one straight, donot go left or right go straight, the corridor will turn left, keep moving along, you will see two staircases going to the first floor on your left, go up, there are two ways one going left and one going right, donot go towards left, go right, enter the third door on your right, after you enter go into the room towards  right, Mr. Kulkarni is the third person from left please go and meet him". After this the student never had the courage to ask for directions from his guide.
