Second thoughts should come first (A short story)

Vikram was married for 24 year he had two sons. As his second son went to university he decided he should take a pause in his life and take some decisions. All his life he had lived for others and thought it was time he gave a thought for himself. He was unhappy about his marriage right from the beginning however carried on and was reaching a land mark of 25 years. Vikram decided he had been sad all these years at least he should not die sad. Enough was enough and felt the main reason for his grief was his marriage. Vikram discussed with his wife. Vikram and wife were recommended a counsellor. Vikram was so convinced he should separate and he was thinking about it for years that he came to the same conclusion that he should separate from his wife.
Vikram went through the painful process of separation and decided to never ever consider marriage. The humiliation his wife had subjected him to for years had a lasting impact. After the separation he took a small apartment on rent. Started going for yoga classes. Life was looking up for him. He got a call from his friend Vinay. Vinay's friend Sumi was coming to Vikram's city and need help settling down. Sumi was joining a competitor of Vikram's company and had similar qualifications as Vikram. Vikram got in touch with Sumi and being a helpful person that he was welcomed her and went about settling her. Took her around the city went around with her to select suitable accomodation, shopping etc. Sumi was impressed with his helpfulness. Sumi had shifted to Vikram city separated from her marriage of many years. It was strange both Sumi and Vikram started thinking why was my spouse not like this? Why did we not meet earlier? Is it worth taking a risk to propose marriage? It took many months for them to be convinced that they had found in each other the companion they were looking for 25 years.
