Finally Did they meet.. (A short story)

The story is placed in the days when telephone were rare and telegram was still prevelant.

Ramesh was a young engineer living in Delhi got to know Radha through a common friend. Ramesh liked her so much that he proposed marriage to her one day. Radha was a non commital and asked for some time. Ramesh was offered a good job in Baroda and so decided to move to Baroda. Ramesh informed Radha about his plans and if she could join him in Baroda. Radha asked for more time. Before leaving delhi Ramesh informed Radha that he would wait for exactly 60 days. If there was no response in 60 days he would know that she was not interested. After reaching Baroda with great difficulty in a months time paying tatkal fees Ramesh secured a telephone connection. He wrote his address and telephone numbers of his office, home and home address to Radha. As days passed Ramesh grew anxious and so did Radha.Radha knew that Ramesh was a nice person and so committed that he would wait those 60 days. She knew it was only her decision to be made. As the ten day countdown began for her to respond she slowly made up her mind to go to Baroda and tell ramesh what she felt. Finally on the 58th day she made up her mind. Booked her ticket to travel to Baroda the next day by train. Then tried calling Ramesh. She could not get through to the office number which kept coming engaged. The residence number just continued to ring endlessly. radha went to the post office and made an express telegram informing the train details to Ramesh. She could not wait to see him now. On the 59th day Radha got on to the train. The same day ramesh went home at 7:00 pm. He neighbour informed that the telegram person had come asking for him but would not give the telegram to anybody. Ramesh rushed to the post office which was closing down and begged the postman to give him his telegram. promising that if it turned out to be good he would give him 50 Rs. the telegram was from Radha saying she is coming to Baroda the next day. His joy knew no bounds. next day he promptly took leave it was the 60th day and he would get his answer. ramesh was at the railway station in time but the train was late. As the train neared the station it was announced it would come to a station quite a distance away. ramesh rushed there on hearing the announcement.As he was running the train acrrying Radha arrived. Radha so eager to see Ramesh got done and started searching. the crowd was so much that both Radha and ramesh missed each other. ramesh went around the station several times thinking Radha would be waiting somewhere. radha in the mean time decided to go to ramesh's place. Radha quickly checked into a small hotel near the hotel and proceeded to ramesh's residence only to find him not there. A kind neighbour took down the details of her hotel. Disappointed radha went back to the hotel hoping ramesh would come there. It was the 60th day.Ramesh also disappointed decided to go back home. The kind neighbour informed him of a girl coming and gave him the hotel details. ramesh rushed to the hotel only to know Radha had just gone out to have lunch. ramesh waited patiently. After and hour he saw radha coming back. Radha was happy and furious with ramesh, "You do not pickup the phone at home and your office phone is engaged and you do not come to the station to pick me up, I get the message I am going right back to Delhi today". Ramesh camly replied, "You can decide what you want to but only after listening to my side". When Ramesh told his part Radha calmed down. She had accepted Ramesh proposal. Both chatted to make up for all the lost time.
