Ramesh was working for a multinational company in Delhi. He was deputed to an office in South America for two years. Being a batchelor he had no problem re-locating. He was surprised that people in his office and the city hardly knew English. Ramesh managed to make friends with Juan Araya in the office. Juan's sister Sabrina was a teacher in school. She happened to speak about India in the school. When Juan mentioned about Ramesh being from India she was happy to know about him and requested Juan to encourage Ramesh to come to their school. Ramesh agreed and was picked by Sabrina on her way to the school. On reaching the class Ramesh was introduced to the class as a person from India. The children had so many questions. Sabrina knew a little bit of English and acted as a translator. To surprise Ramesh was asked questions like "Do you travel on elephants?", "Is India a land of snake charmers?". Ramesh informed the students that India was a poor country where 25% of the people sleep partially hundry every day, half of the children below 5 years are malnourished and there are several things which we need to improve. There are 9 official languages. India is the bithplace of the worl's major religions namely Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. The Muslim population is the third largest in the world. Zoroastrianism and Judaism also have an ancient history in India. There are also a large number of Christians in India in fact in some states in India Christians are in majority. Citizens of India are generally tolerant of each other's religions and retain a secular outlook.Even though there are so many differences between people namely language, religion, race and color India has continued to be United for more than 60 years. India is the origin for several mathematical concepts including zero and the Arabic numerals.
India has built its own Super Computer and also designs and launches satellites for itself and other countries.
The students were surprised to know what Ramesh said. Their impression about India changed forever. Sabrina thanked Ramesh for coming and speaking to the students.
